The Gen-z Type Heart

Our generation, the so-called Gen-zs’ are quite different from our previous generations who are totally unfamiliar with us. But how can they understand us well when we fail to understand ourselves every day….

That’s because we are changing ourselves constantly into beings we have no idea of, to conclude none of us have any idea of who we are. There are moments when we think that we have finally figured out who we are but then life throws a swinger and everything gets messed up in a way that we have no idea how to deal with, forcing ourselves to change.

Our hearts are loving, caring, hopelessly romantic, but then again, we are broken, sad, anxious, angry, sometimes we are conflicted, indifferent and messed up but at the end we just become numb. When we can’t feel anything, we are unbothered, which leaves us as nothing but plain and simply mundane. But can we blame ourselves after all the things we are put through from the beginning. Since we are born, we are expected to be perfect, or society will fail to accept us as who we are. It all starts from expecting to be a topper, achieving brilliance in extra-curriculars,to be blindly obedient to anything we are told to do, to be self- sufficient but not too independentat the same time. Still, it’s okay, I guess, until you have no opinion of your own and don’t speak your mind. Bringing home straight A’s, taking up science as your subject, become an engineer or a doctor, have a high paying job, get married and have kids, be a good parent and partner then die – this is the life society wants us to lead and the moment you take a wrong step, it’s over for you.

Is having an independent life, being self opinionated, being true to yourself and your heart such a crime? So, one day, I snapped and decided to go with the flow, follow my heart, and loved myself, hated whoever I wanted to, fancied whoever my heart would want to. I want to have a good life as well but on my own terms. None of us want to end up like we mostly do- unhappy, irritated, and dependent without any free will.

Why are we the way we are?

This is the most difficult question one will ever face but something I have observed in the past few years is- the people of the this generation break the most hearts and at the end of the day are most broken themselves. This might sound like a filmy dialogue, but ask yourselves….isn’t it true?

So what if we try not to break someone, hurt someone even if we are hurt ourselves and if very much needed only to the ones who have hurt us (it is physically impossible to stop yourself if they have wronged you in the most nasty way). Take one step at a time and urge one another to do the same so that the sufferings and painful endings might become less in number.

Let us work for a happier and healthier future as it is the only way to obtain a beyyer one….

Too many young people itch for for what they want instead of scratching for it.

Summer Fashion Trends 2022

It’s finally May and the official start for the hot summer season. Though I wouldn’t hide the fact that summers in India aren’t very pleasant, they are rather very hot, sweaty and uncomfortable. Yet we enjoy summer for it’s juicy fruits and bright coloured fashion.

So, speaking of bright colour clothes, why do we prefer them during summers?

For starters, light coloured clothes especially white coloured are poor absorbers of heat, rather it reflects heat and keeps us cooler and comfortable. Well, I have to be honest that I am one to put comfort over style as I believe the best way to flaunt around your style is to be comfortable in it. So let’s stop the chit chat and take a look at some of the comfy styles:

Cottagecore Dresses

Shirred A-Line Dress from Urbanic
Ruched A-Line Dress from Urbanic

How has Reopening of Schools Changed My Lifestyle as a Student?

We all have been through a terrible phase due to the pandemic for two years which lead to closing of schools, shops, big and small businesses, corporate offices and work places which not only affected the economy but also affected our personal lives in a massive way. But as a student I can tell you about my experience on how it affected my education, routine and life.

I am in the 10th grade right now and the future batch for Madhyamik 2022-2023, by the sound of it only it seems like a lot of pressure. Sessions in my school start from January and as many of you may recall this year’s first month. We had to go through online classes again for a whole month which led to backlog in syllabus. In February our schools reopened and classes started in a way more normal way than the previous two time when the schools tried opening the gates but got closed due to the rapid spread of the disease. We sat in classrooms instead of the halls which was really irritating to be honest.

There was a huge pressure when we transitioned into the full-time offline mode after two years. But sitting with friends, making fun of that boy, complaining about the studies, talking with each other, laughing, making memories helped to ease our way around this transition. We are almost back to our very normal school ways that we were used to before the pandemic. I’ll be honest we lost many of our disciplinary habits like waking up early, writing pages after pages, completing homework, finish projects by deadline and mostly multitasking.

I myself am very grateful to return to the normalcy of life. I want to spend time with my friends for this last year before most of them head towards their new schools, new career paths and all together a bright future. This last year was really important for all of us and as we make our way toward the board exams we really needed the proper grooming for that which could never be done through the online teaching mode. I also wish all the potential candidates of Madhyamik 2022-2023 All The Best!

Word of the Year 2021 and Why

The year 2021 will personally be very important to me for the rest of my life. I have gone through so much, learned so much about life and the reality, and what I learnt has changed my life. When I look back at the version of me at the beginning of the year and look at the version of me now I see how much of a strong, matured, sensible and wise person I have become. Maybe I still couldn’t get rid of my short temper and triggers but I believe time must heal everything. The person I’ve become is a whole new individual and I am proud of her. To be honest, this one would have been the roughest year of my teenage period.

But if talking generally, it has been a rough year for everyone. Everyone’s life was changed due to this pandemic which also affected the economic aspects of the world. I changed and the world around and everyone else in it changed as well.

Therefore, I believe the word of the year is Change.

I was given the most memorable experience of love this year and then heartbroken at the same time and the people who know wgat I’ve been through also know that it wasn’t any ordinary heartbreak, rejection or break up for that matter because you need to be in a relationship for that but I was never in one. It was brutal for any person of my age. But then even if it hurt I survived and I was strong throughout. Then comes the part of my family problems…..yeah a girl kf my age can have that. I am not from a very normal family but rather a very dysfunctional one. My parents for that matter weren’t very supportive and nice either. And again I was strong enough to keep my sanity in these insane circumstances.

The rest of the world was facing something very similar in general as well. There was the insane politics, fight for food, for survival. Scarcity of vaccine for Covid-19 especially in India due to the massive population and some other political aspects. People were dying and many lost the people they loved. It was brutal. In the middle of that the countries were having conflicts and planning to start wars.

The world around us CHANGED FOREVER. Even if things become better they can never be the same. Whatever we go through in our life leaves an impression on us that can never be removed.

Therefore I hope and pray for a better 2022 as we come to the end of this year which was filled with heartbreaks, sorrows and Changes.….

Happy New Year Everyone….❤🥳🎁

My Views On Modern Feminism

I am a women of this society who faces all those obstacles and negativity in real life every day which we only talk about. Well, I am a feminist and I can confidently say I am not a fake one. Belonging from a middle-class Indian orthodox family I know what it is to be deprived of freedom, whether it may be speech, choice, belief or to express oneself. Independence is the main goal of women in today’s generation and that is what is going to bring change in this corrupt society of ours.

Before I move further into the topic a small note for all the women out there-

We women have the capability and potential needed to win the world so you should never settle for less than you deserve. People come and people go and leave their opinions but we are not supposed to be living our life on someone else’s principles and terms. Enjoy life on your own standards and never let anyone restrict you from anything. Live your life the way you want and as you do, motivate other women to live a happy life on their own terms. Make mistakes, make bad choices but never let those stop you from doing what you want to do. It’s important we understand that we are equally contributing to this society as men and even more than that so there is no reason for not being respected equally. Love yourself and be happy.

My Views On Equality of Women

Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women

I believe feminism comes when there is equality in society irrespective of colour, gender, race, religion, financial condition or job status. We deserve to be respected and the biggest thing is to give us the luxury to present our choices. We need to take decision for ourselves whether it is choosing what to wear or maybe what to say. We need to be provide the liberty to share our opinions and choose for ourselves.

In today’s generation I have seen many people who claim themselves to be feminists but when they see a women in shorts on the streets they not only judge her but also ill treat and disrespect her. So, yeah you can’t respect a person’s choice of clothing and then you claim yourself to be a feminist, well that’s ironic.

If a women is virgin, respect her choice. If a women is not virgin, respect her actions don’t judge her and call her a slut. If a women is pregnant before marriage remind her it’s a blessing and if a women decides not to have a child even after marriage try to understand her. If a women wears short dresses, look at her with respect and try not to be an asshole and if she decides to fully cover herself then also respect her and don’t question her sense of fashion or capabilities. Learn to respect people’s choices.

My Views On Lack of Sex Education and Periods

Sex Education is important as we need to know issues related to our sexuality, reproduction, sexual activities, pregnancy, birth control. We have been gifted with sexuality and exploring that doesn’t make you a bad or characterless woman or man. But while exploring it we need to know about certain things so that we don’t end up having unwanted pregnancy or sexual infections. It also gives us information on sexual violence which is vital nowadays as seen from the incraease in number of sexual assault cases.

When a women is on her periods and has a stain on her clothes don’t make a big issue out of it, though some people are making progress while some are just stuck with the ideas of people ages ago. It’s normal to have periods. This is natural and this natural occurrence is the very reason of our existence. I think sex education should be given in every school so that men also know about their source of existence. And who knows maybe it will help decrease the number of sexual assaults and help women increase their hygienic safety and take precautions which can prevent harmful diseases.

So, here’s the end of this blog. Hope you guys like it. If you did please share this as much as possible because people need to hear our story and people should know about the importance of women and feminism.

A special shoutout to all those men who respect women and fight for their rights every now and then. They help the society to become a better place and help all of us grow as a civilized society. We are blessed to have you.❤

When Old Calcutta meets New Kolkata

People often have the silliest misconceptions about the culture and heritage of Kolkata. Everyone on the outside feel we are lagging behind, always turning towards the past, while people in Kolkata feel that our generation is running forward, having no regard and respect for their culture, cutting off our roots.

Which one is true and what shall one believe?

None of the above are entirely true nor entirely  ignorable. Both have a standing point. Kolkata  is filled with diversity. People of different races, religion, background can be found here, and it has something to offer for everyone. It’s true that some in our generation are being negligent towards our legacy and roots of identity but some even today find a separate love for the cultural ways and wears and do not percieve this as something that hold us back from progress. Even Alia Bhatt’s character, Rani in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ portrayed her as a modern, professional and knowledgeable woman who embraces her love for sarees without having a care to the myth which suggests that sarees are only for old people. Well, even if it was, Old is Gold, right?!

From jogging around Rabindra Sarovar Lake to considering early morning flower picking as one’s daily dose of fitness routine, life blooms to different people in their own unique ways. Even today, at the dawn of Mahalaya, every Bengali turns on those old radio systems to feel the bliss of hearing the mantra chants of Birendra Kishore Bhadra. Wearing elegant cocktail dresses and suits might be the new westernized trend of Valentines Day in Kolkata, but our hearts still get hooked at the sight of saree worn ladies and panjabi worn gentlemen.

We all have seen massive transformation in the lifestyle of the people of Calcutta but I must admit that we have an annoyingly beautiful tendency of looking back at our old and gold days every once in a while, after all how can we forget that Kolkata was once Calcutta… therefore, we are better off at the point where Calcutta meets Kolkata and without having to choose what we crave the most.

I have always loved those lanes of North Calcutta, where people of generations after generations passed through and looked up to. The royal architecture and authenticity, the ruins of buildings, and rusty old windows always make one travel through time and make us embrace days that were simpler and everything else so royal. If one has ever tasted fuchka of both South and North, then they know of the life altering difference of taste that it offers. In South fuchka tastes good, but in North it feeds the soul and pumps our hearts with joy when the pudina water touches the taste buds. And how must I forget the thirty rupees jhumka I purchase from markets of Esplanade and Gariahat? After all, jhumkas are a mandatory item in each girl’s accessories collection.

If you still feel hungry and crave for Chinese then head to Chinatown, for Biriyani to Nizam’s and if that feels too much for you then the Cafes in Dover Lane or Southern Avenue will definitely do the trick. I love Kolkata for the various Rasas it showers us with when each day passes by. A gloomy and rainy sky, amidst feels that feel very blue or a day filled with sunshine when sunglasses will fail anyway, or the clear blue skies of Durga Pujo when all is well, days are all extraordinarily expressive. Tagore has already painted all scenarios through his work and made it our constant companion through hell and heaven. A Bengali can never be alone as Tagore resides in our hearts and pulls strings we never knew of before.

This city has so much love to offer, it offers us the warmth of our mother’s lap. And yet we ask, “What brings you back to this city?”

It never fails to offer us the best of the past and present because it never lets some things change. And that is what is best about- “আমার শহর কলকাতা”।

Will I be finally happy in the next 10 years?

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Don’t get me wrong, I am happy now as well, but when I say that I want to be happy in the next 10 years, I mean be happy with my position in life and be at peace with the person I would have become.

There are a few things that I would want to accomplish in 10 years, like going to New York, having a job in the stream I would be choosing, traveling, studying abroad and living my life in peace. Therefore, if simply put, in 10 years, I see myself in New York City as an established cinematographer and lifestyle blogger and vlogger, continuing to practice Odissi dance and more of all living my best life with all the ups and downs included.

As once Bunny said in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, “Main udna chahta hoon, daudna chahta hoon aur girna bhi chahta hoon Naina, par rukna nahi chahta…”

And yes most of all don’t forget to be happy and cherish those little moments because you will miss out on the important ones while chasing the bigger moments.

A step towards being happier

Describe one positive change you have made in your life.

We all face hardships in life, and to overthink it and be anxious comes quite normally with it. Now, January, I would agree that my I got in my own way of self growth, but in these 4 months, I have come a lot way towards becoming a better version of myself and in bringing about a more positive change in my life. I started romanticizing the simple and mundane aspects of life, finding joy in the finer moments and appreciating a laugh when I get one because I know it could be worse. You can’t control where life takes you, but you can control how you respond to it. The fact that I realize that whatever is happening is coming through to protect me and for my greater good even if that is something that might break me. The goal will either be to understand why it happened or to just wait and see that it happened to make space for better things. It might hurt a bit, but trusting the process and trusting yourself more than anything is the best way to get through life.

So, love yourself, trust yourself and know that no matter what, you deserve respect. Therefore, don’t settle for less and dream bigger.

Only if I could be BUNNY from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?

One of my favorite characters from one of my favorite movies is Kabir Thapar, aka Bunny from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Now I have some very obvious reasons behind my choice, but the first and foremost reason would be the independence of making choices. I like him very much do love to travel, explore, be all adventurous, quirky, and a bit flirty as well , but even when he sacrificed this life of his out of his love for Naina, he made his own choice and most of the time we lack that freedom and especially women in our society lack that freedom.

Obviously, that isn’t the only reason. The excitement of the unknown that he has while traveling from country to country, trying new things, and hearing stories of the places and people of that nation attracts me more towards it. He studied mass communication abroad, and that is exactly where I got inspired to do the same. And, of course, our similar love for camera pulls me towards him even more.

Therefore, if given the choice, I would like to lead the life of Kabir.

The one that soothes my soul

What job would you do for free?

I started dancing since I was 3 years old, and I continue to do so still today. It is the one thing that soothes my soul and calms my mind. Any sort of emotion that I want to express but am finding difficulty in doing so, I tend to express through dance. It helps me to claim back my power and give me the confidence to own the world. I do it out of love and not for some prize or money. Therefore, this is the job I will do it for free.
